Geolam: Redefining the Interior-Exterior Dynamic (3-15-2024)

Rosecrans is a substantial adaptive reuse project, designed by the architects at Donaldson + Partners, that sought to breathe new life into a nondescript 85,000sf two-story concrete building in El Segundo from the 1960s.

The new courtyard provides an entry from the parking lot and a sanctuary for tenants.  Materials, including Geolam, played a vital role, blending the look of wood with concrete, glass, steel and biophilia to balance permanence and comfort.

“We chose Geolam because we needed a robust exterior grade material that provides the warmth of natural wood without having to deal with the limitations and issues that come from using natural wood… It’s particularly good for spaced-out slat applications where the homogenous nature of the material is a desired quality.  We have since specified and detailed on other projects. ” – Ilya Kozin, Donaldson + Partners
