Rainscreen Cladding Support Systems

Rainscreens provide limitless design options for building facades while controlling moisture and reducing energy consumption.  Knight Wall Systems manufactures versatile, ventilated rain screen attachment systems that accommodate an expansive array of cladding options.  Our expertise is focused on the means and methods of attaching rain screen facade panels to the building while reducing the impact on the insulation (reduced thermal bridging).  Knight offers multiple attachment solutions for different insulation assemblies:  the award winning CI® System and HCI™ System, which pair a drop-in facade attachment with rigid exterior foam insulation, enabling ASHRAE90.1-compliant continuous insulation; the ultra-sustainable MFI® System rain screen, which utilized mineral fiber insulation; and the ThermaZee high thermal performance Z.

Thin Natural Stone Panel Systems

Thin stone panel systems that offer building teams design flexibility, cost-savings, installation efficiencies and sustainable qualities.  Fabricated with a thin natural stone veneer that is bonded to a high-performance aluminum honeycomb backing, these cladding systems provide an alternative easy-to-install, cladding option that is both cost-effective and design-friendly.

Why Indiana Limestone?  As versatile and attractive as it is durable, limestone is well-suited for architectural finishes and sustainable construction applications for nearly any building type.  Specifically, Indiana Limestone (quarried in south central Indiana between the cities of Bloomington and Bedford) is well-known to be the highest quality limestone in the United States.  Renowned as a excellent building material due to its long-lasting strength and beauty, Indiana Limestone has adorned some of the world’s most famous  buildings, including the National Cathedral, Empire State Building, the Pentagon and 35 of the 50 U.S. state capitol buildings.

What is a Lightweight Thin Stone Panel?  Limestone thin stone panel products are manufactured in a four-layer “sandwich-panel” where a 1/4″ thick stone veneer is bonded to a waterproof fiberglass layer using an astronautical-grade epoxy that also secures the aluminum honeycomb center to the chosen backing.  This is accomplished by laminating the layer of epoxy-reinforced, fiber-rich cloth directly over the honey comb to provide crack and fracture resistance, as well as, flexural and impact strength.  The stone veneer, fiber-rich, epoxy-saturated material and aluminum honeycomb backing are then placed into a press that laminates the layers together, creating a nominal 1″ panel.  The resulting bond strength is such that it would require more than 66,200 lbs. per sq. ft. to separate the Indiana Limestone from the aluminum honeycomb substrate.

Lower Installation Costs – Lightweight at 3.5 lbs per sf, can be panelized, field applied in rainscreen applications by cladding contractors.

Waterproof Expansion Joint Systems

SITURA’s RedLINE®, FlamLINE® and AquaLINE® waterproof expansion joints.

SITURA is a globally recognized leading supplier of waterproof expansion joints for roofing and waterproofing applications.  SITURA waterproof expansion joints are specifically designed and engineered for use in a wide variety of applications, ranging from single ply membrane tie-ins to large-scale displacement seismic joints, without obstructing drainage and eliminating water ponding.  All SITURA joints are compatible with single ply, modified bitumen, asphalt and coal tar pitch based membranes.  SITURA offers extensive in house technical and design assistance as well as on demand technical site support for all its products.

SITURA’s RedLINE®, FlamLINE® and AquaLINE® waterproof expansion joints are rapidly becoming the industry standard in quality assurance and reliability for monolithic, seamless, zero profile, maintenance free expansion joints in commercial and industrial roofing and waterproofing.

 

 

 

 

Air and Weather Barrier Solutions/Drainage Planes

High drying capacity air barriers.  Simple building physics and moisture control tactics suggest that the best location for insulation is the exterior of the structure.  However, from a practical sense, many projects continue to utilize fiberglass or other insulation products to the interior side to supplement code mandated continuous insulation on the outside.  In these cases, impermeable air/vapor barriers serve to trap interior generated moisture.  Structures need to breath – they need to dry to the inside and to the outside while stopping air flow.  VaproShield has a complete product offering to solve that critical design issue.

RevealShield SA and IT – black, highly permeable (41 perms), UV stable (180 day full exposure during construction), water resistive air barrier for use with open joint rain screen products (max 40% total open wall area, joints up to 2″ wide).  RevealShield also serves to provide a weather barrier over mineral wool insulation and to protect it from moisture intrusion.

WrapShield SA and IT – for use direct to sheathing or over rigid insulation solutions.  Provides a much more efficient solution than liquid applied permeable air barriers and should be considered in lieu of or as a competitive equivalent.  No special sheathing joint treatment, no primer, ease of opening detailing.  SA provides a fully adhered application.  IT has integral seam tape and is loose applied.

WrapShield RS – A mechanically attached, water resistive (WRB) vapor permeable air barrier (AB) membrane with built-in rain screen drainage matrix and integrated tape at the horizontal seams.  3mm and 7mm drainage matrix options.

WPX Admixture – is a demonstrated and certified complex sodium silicate-based Type “S” Waterproofing Admixture (per ASTM C494 / C494M).  It is an integral waterproofing agent that produces low – permeability concrete across a wide spectrum of mix designs without the potential of contributing to surface coating delamination.  WPX is classified as a PRAH by ACI 212.3 R & is a recommended admix in combatting hydrostatic head pressures found in both below/above grade water retaining structures.
